Nashville Zoo Welcomes Tennessee Artists Entries

Nashville Zoo is seeking Tennessee artists/sculptors/designers to design and create artwork for a new and long awaited exhibit at Nashville Zoo at 3777 Nolensville Road. The commission opportunities available for artists are as follows: (1) Design Commission — Create the design for a donor recognition wall or structure to be erected at the new Masai Giraffe exhibit scheduled to open in the spring of 2006. (2) Build/Create Commission — Build the structure once the design has been approved. These are two separate commissions. It is feasible that one person or team could be selected to both design and create the project., which is why both projects are being submitted as commissions. National Endowment For The Humanities Offers Summer Internships

The Summer Internships Program of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) introduces promising college students to the programs, policies, and operations of the federal agency charged with promoting scholarship, education, and public programming in the humanities in the United States. During their ten-week stay in Washington, D.C., interns will have the opportunity to learn about the agency's work and the humanities projects and activities it supports. Nominations Invited for Robert Bingham Writers' Fellowship

The PEN/Robert Bingham Fellowship for Writers honors exceptionally talented fiction writers whose debut work — a first novel or collection of short stories published in 2005 — represents distinguished literary achievement and suggests great promise. One PEN/Robert Bingham Fellow will be selected by a panel of three writers or editors who are PEN members. Nominations are welcome from any source: writers, editors, literary agents, or members of the literary community at large. One need not be a member of PEN to submit a nomination. Lexington Art League Posts Call For Southern Sculptors

The Lexington Art League in Lexington, Kentucky, is hosting a juried exhibit by Southern sculptors entitled A Southern Presence. The juror is John Henry known worldwide for his large-scale public works of art. The call for entries is for sculptors in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Caroline, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia. Tennessee Arts Commission Grant Opportunities
Individual Artist Fellowships

Each year the Tennessee Arts Commission awards five $5,000 grants to outstanding artists in the categories of visual art (3-D accepted this year), craft, and media (film, video, animation) through the Individual Artist Fellowship program. This competitive grant program is open to all professional artists (meaning artists' major source of income comes from their art) who reside in Tennessee. New Visions Gallery Posts Call For Entries

New Visions Gallery, Inc. in Marshfield, Wisconsin will be holding its 20th Annual Culture and Agriculture exhibition, May 8-July 8, 2006. The exhibit will feature fine art with agricultural themes. Artists working in media such as painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, original prints, mixed media and fine crafts such as ceramics, batik, metals, tapestry are encouraged to enter. Tennessee Association Of Craft Artists Welcomes Entries

The Tennessee Association of Craft Artists (TACA), a nonprofit agency dedicated to educating and exposing people to the art of fine craft, announces that exhibitor applications are available to craft artists for the 35th Annual TACA Spring Craft Fair set for May 5-7, 2006, at Nashville's Centennial Park. Any craft artist who is 18 years or older, a Tennessee resident or studying at institutions within the state, is invited to apply. Five color slides of recent work must accompany each application. The Selection Committee looks for original crafts of exceptional quality, both traditional and contemporary, which exhibit excellence of design and skilled craftsmanship in the execution of each piece. Starbucks Foundation Offers Funds For Programs For Youth
Deadlines: March 1 and September 1 each year.
Starbucks Foundation funds programs for youth, ages 6-18, that integrate literacy with personal and civic action in the communities where they live. The Starbucks Foundation invites letters of inquiry from qualifying 501 (c) 3 organizations that work with underserved youth in the fields of literacy (reading, writing and creative/media arts) and environmental literacy.
