Funds for At-Risk Youth Available from the Tennessee Arts Commission06.16.2005
Grant funds are currently available to provide hands-on arts activities and educational opportunities to underserved, at-risk youth in rural and urban communities in Tennessee. The funds, available from the Tennessee Arts Commission (TAC) for fiscal year 2006 projects, are designed to provide arts-related activities outside of normal school hours.
Grants awarded in this category range from $500 to $5,000. Applications will only be awarded to projects that serve students from primary and secondary grade levels. Application deadline is Aug. 1, 2005. Projects must take place between Nov. 1, 2005-June 15, 2006.
"These funds are for projects that provide positive experiences for children who do not normally have access to the arts due to economics or other social constraints," says Kim Leavitt, director of the Arts Education Program for the Commission.
"Over the years, these projects have made a tremendous difference in the lives of young people from all regions of the state," Leavitt continues.
