Arts Council of Greater Kingsport Celebrates Contributions of Arts Leaders, Distinguished Artists12.20.2004
Kingsport teachers Russell Bennett and Richard Brown were recently recognized for their contributions in promoting the arts.
At the Arts Council of Greater Kingsport's 2004 Arts Awards on Oct. 9, a panel of eight adjudicators from across the state evaluated the nomination submissions. Awards were given for arts leadership and distinguished artists.
The Council's Arts Leadership Award was presented to Washington Elementary art teacher Bennett and John Sevier Middle School band teacher Brown. The Arts Leadership Award recognizes organizations, businesses, educators, patrons, arts administrators, corporations and volunteers who have demonstrated significant support or participation in activities that foster excellence in, appreciation of, or access to the arts. Ross N. Robinson Middle School band teacher Charles Herron was also nominated for a 2004 Arts Leadership Award.
Mayor Jeanette Blazier presented a special award to Kingsport City Schools for excellence in promoting and presenting arts opportunities in the community. The school system was recently honored as one of the "100 Best Communities For Music Education" by the American Music Conference and has long supported music and arts in the community through its various academic programs.
