Big Stone Gap, VA.To collect is as old as humankind. Thenatural need to gather and covet objects may have been born originally out of survival and necessity but collecting as a pastime has evolved into an entire industry, especially with the advent of the internet. The question is... what do you collect? Stamps, coins, baseball cards, bottles, stickers, toys, magnets, the list is endless.
To provide an opportunity for local collectors to share their objects and knowledge, Saturday, Dec, 6, from 1 to 4 p.m., the Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park hosts “Penchants and Proclivities,” the fourth in a series of events showcasing personal collections from around the region. During these events, participants are invited to display and share their collections with the visiting public in the museum’s Victorian Parlor.
In addition, each event in the series will showcase a presentation from a different subject matter expert spotlighting a particular area of collecting.
This is a free program, and registration is not required. If you are interested in displaying your collectible items or for more information about the program, emailswvamuseum@dcr.virginia.govor call the Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park at 276-523-1322.
