Americans for the Arts Creative Industries reports offer a research-based approach to understanding the scope and economic importance of the arts.
The creative industries are composed of arts businesses that range from nonprofit museums, symphonies, and theaters to for-profit film, architecture, and advertising companies. Nationally, there are 668,267 businesses in the United States involved in the creation or distribution of the arts, employing 2.9 million people.
Free reports with updated statistics for 2010 are available online to the public for all U.S. states and congressional districts.
In addition, professional members have members-only access to reports for every U.S. state house and state senate district. Customized reports can be ordered for any region (e.g., city, county, city/county council districts, and multicounty region).
Each report includes a customized map of the region, the total number of arts-related businesses in the region, the total number of jobs supported by these businesses, a listing of the number of arts-related businesses, and jobs by category.
