August 15, 2007

Kingsport, Tenn. -- Ten-year-old McKenna Andrews in Kingsport, Tenn. is a recipient of the 2006 Mom's Choice Award for her literary accomplishments as a child author regarding her first published book, Riding The Storm Out. She will receive her award during a red carpet gala on October 13, 2007 in New York City.

Riding The Storm Out is a fictional tale inspired by true events that occurred when the dolphins of the MarineLife Oceanarium were swept from their aquarium and out to sea by Hurricane Katrina. Andrews and her family rode out Hurricane Katrina, then moved from their Mississippi Gulf Coast home to Tennessee.

After her book was published, the young author was featured in the February 2007 edition of A! Magazine for the Arts. For that story and several photos, click here.
