Alexa Lewis blends technology and artistic vision

August 26, 2024

Alexa Lewis is drawn to creative expression and started drawing and painting when she was young. Her formal journey began in her senior year of high school in an advanced placement art class. When she went to King University, she was attracted to Digital Art and Media (her major) because of its versatility.

“The ability to blend technology with artistic vision allows me to experiment and push boundaries in ways that traditional media might not.

“I am fascinated by art’s power to communicate complex ideas and emotions. I am eager to understand and appreciate the perspective of the artist and the story they are trying to convey. My approach is primarily realism, although recently I have been exploring abstract styles. I focus on using color to represent skin tones, emotions and culture, which allows me to delve into creative portrait work with deeper meaning.

“I’ve had the privilege of showcasing my work in a few exhibits, including a notable one at The Arts Depot, Abingdon, Virginia. This exhibit was particularly meaningful as it was my first show outside of an institutional setting. The series featured my experimentation with new mediums and explored the concept of my heritage. The portraits, which included family and friends, added a personal touch to the exhibition. This opportunity inspired me to continue pushing the boundaries of my art.

“Art, to me, is a form of storytelling and self-expression. It’s a way to convey ideas, evoke emotions and provoke thought. It serves as both a personal journey and a universal language, connecting us to shared experiences and diverse perspectives,” she says.

Alexa received the Audience’s Choice Award in 2020 at King University’s Spring Showcase, which was a significant encouragement. She plans to continue developing her art and exploring new techniques and mediums. She is committed to her artistic practice but is open to commission work.

Alexa is the 22-year-old daughter of Edward and Angela Lewis and grew up in Bristol, Tennessee. She graduated from King University with a degree in digital media art and design.
