The Johnson County Center for the Arts Fall Class schedule includes some much loved courses and expands on new ones. They are also offering more evening and weekend classes to better serve students’busy schedules. Classes are held at both the Gallery on Main at 129 W Main Street and the Arts Education Center at 127 College Street.
ARTS EDUCATION CENTER
At the Arts Education Center the focus is on ceramics. Potters Tara Belk and Paige Janeri have put together an extensive curriculum that will introduce pottery to the beginner or challenge the most experienced student.
Both Tara and Paige are offering six-week courses that will introduce students to slab building, coils, molds and the wheel. Paige’s Beginner Wheel Throwing and Handbuilding will be offered on Friday evenings from 5 pm to 8 pm and Tara’s Create with Clay will be on Saturday afternoons from 1 pm to 4 pm.
Along with individual student classes, Paige has put together a few classes that are perfect for families and seniors. There is also a special Veterans Clay Circle class designed for a veteran and one of their friends or family members.“I have witnessed first hand the importance and therapeutic benefits that working with clay has on my students,”said Paige.“Learning the art form of pottery is tactile, useful, and meditative. Its unique and formative properties feel healing to work with and capture creativity in a moment.”
