Audiences around the Tri-Cities are invited to join the choirs of the Mountain Empire Children’s Choral Academy as they present their slate of holiday concerts.
Artistic Director, Jane DeLoach Morison says, “We are so thrilled to return to performances with the Symphony of the Mountains this year. After two years of COVID cancellations, our choirs are ready and excited to join forces with this wonderful orchestra and other arts organizations to ring in the holiday cheer.”
The choirs perform with the Symphony for the “By the Fireside” concerts in Kingsport, Dec. 3, and Emory, Dec. 4. Both concerts begin at 3 p.m.
The choirs are also excited to return to the Biltmore Estate this year for the Candlelight Christmas Evenings. “MECCA choirs have been singing at Biltmore since 2002, with the exception of the past two years. We are so happy that our singers get to have this magical experience,” says Morison. The Children’s Choir sings Dec. 11, and the Highlands Youth Ensemble sings Dec. 18. Evening performances in the Biltmore House are 5:30-9 p.m., and all guests will be serenaded by the choirs.
There are also local events where you can hear the choirs.
The new Explorers group, grades one through three, perform at the Johnson City Library, Johnson City, Tennessee, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m.
All MECCA choirs perform Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Johnson City, Tennessee.
The Highlands Youth Ensemble presents “A Service of Lessons and Carols” Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at State Street United Methodist Church, Bristol, Virginia.
“This concert, made up of scripture readings and musical compositions is really a special evening. Many people tell us every year that this is the event that makes the holidays meaningful for them,” says Morison.
