The Bristol Music Club’s Annual Scholarship Benefit is held Saturday, Nov. 4 at Central Presbyterian Church, Bristol, Virginia. The event opens at 10 a.m. with a silent auction that includes a variety of items donated by area merchants and organizations. Refreshments provided by Bristol Music Club members are available during the event.
This year’s theme is Music ... Weaves Us Together. Beth McCoy is the Master of Ceremonies for the program of music that begins at 10:30 a.m.
Retired music teacher, founder and retired artistic director of the Mountain Empire Children’s Choral Academy, published composer, Diaconal Minister of Music and former church choir director, McCoy has won numerous awards, including The Tribute to Women and the AAME Artist Award. McCoy guides the audience through a tapestry of musical performances.
The Appalachian Clarinets are performing a variety of pieces. The clarinet quartet was founded by Gary Robertz, a member of TBMC. Members of the group are Carol Jensen, Cheryl McCauley and Bill Smith. Dr. Lisa Perry joins them for this performance.
The program includes performances by 2023 Bristol Music Scholarship Winners Bailey Henson, piano; Yuyan Hu, piano; Mengdie Hu, cello; Joshua Ková?, cello, Emmy Nannenga, piano; Caroline Ning, piano; Kelly Patrick, soprano; Madison Potterton, cello; and William Tran, piano.
In May, The Bristol Music Club awarded more than $7,000 in scholarships to 13 young musicians. This Scholarship Benefit helps raise funds for the May 2024 auditions and awards and provides an opportunity to honor the winners of the 2023 auditions.
