Broadway veteran Jessica Molaskey visits Milligan

October 1, 2019

This fall, Milligan College’s musical theater program performs “Songs for a New World,” a contemporary musical that weaves characters and history together to illuminate the timelessness of self-discovery. This collection of songs examines life, love and the choices we make. Performances occur Oct. 24-26, at 7:30 p.m., and Oct. 27, at 2:30 p.m., in Milligan’s McGlothlin-Street Theatre in the Gregory Center.

Prior to the campus premiere, Milligan welcomes a member of the original Off-Broadway cast, Jessica Molaskey, for a masterclass Thursday, Oct. 3, from 7-9 p.m., in the McGlothlin-Street Theatre. The masterclass is free and open to the public. Molaskey observes and coaches select students in Milligan’s musical theater program as they perform select Broadway hits. Molaskey also will assist Milligan’s cast during a private rehearsal of “Songs for a New World,” providing valuable insights from her experiences performing this show across the country.

Molaskey is a veteran of a dozen Broadway shows, including the revival of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s “Sunday in the Park with George,” which was nominated for nine Tony Awards. She has appeared in “A Man of No Importance” at Lincoln Center, “Parade,” “Dream,” “Tommy,” “Crazy for You,” “Les Misérables,” “City of Angels,” “Chess,” “Cats” and “Oklahoma!” She most recently played the role of Marie in the Encores! production of “The Most Happy Fella” at City Center. She has performed in Off-Broadway productions of “Songs for A New World,” “Dream True,” “Wise Guys” and “Weird Romance.”

All seats are reserved for Milligan’s production of “Songs for a New World” this fall. Tickets are available online and during select hours at the box office. Tickets also can be purchased at the door, if still available. All tickets are $10.
