Congress Passes $10 Million Increase to NEA Budget

March 27, 2009

In order to keep the government funded through September 30, 2009, the FY 2009 omnibus appropriations bill was signed into law by President Obama on March 11, 2009.

Included in the catch-all funding measure is a $10 million boost for the National Endowment for the Arts to a total $155 million, up from last year's $144.7 million.

The Arts in Education program at the U.S. Department of Education and the Office of Museum Services also saw substantial increases. After operating under FY 2008 levels for the past several months because of a protracted budget process stalemate, funding for most federal agencies had to be bundled into one large omnibus measure.
