ETSU students' barbershop Quartet to sing at Regional Competition

April 1, 2013

JOHNSON CITY – They have sung the national anthem before an East Tennessee State University basketball game, performed at many campus events and participated in the ETSU Music Department's Big Fall Show. Now the members of the barbershop quartet Full Scale will display their talent at a district competition, the Carolinas International Preliminary, to be held in early April in Pinehurst, N.C. Those scoring high enough at the district contest will go on to international competition in Toronto, Canada, in July.

The quartet is composed of senior Tyler Carpenter, bass; senior Seth O'Kegley, lead; senior Zach Kiser, tenor; and junior Austin Bird, baritone, who organized the group on their own because they share a love of music and a gift for harmony.

Tony Bowman of the Appalachian Express Chorus serves as the quartet's coach with assistance from performance coach Mark Kettner and ETSU Music Department faculty member Dr. Zachary Marshall.

For further information, contact Carpenter at carpenterr@goldmail.etsu.edu.
