The 69th Virginia Highlands Festival announces the winners of the 2017 Juried Fine Arts Show. The winners include the Awards of Distinction to Tracy Ference for "Freedom," Jeff Chapman Crane for "Back Into the Storm" and Donna Bird for "The Poetess."
Award of Excellence went to Debbi L. Martin for "Bridle on Fence," and Awards of Merit went to Timothy N. Tate for "With Friends Behind Me ...," Z.L. Feng for "The Officer" and Lisa Boardwine for "Tuscan Glow." The Plein Air Award went to Michelle O'Patrick-Ollis for "Dad Has Dementia" and The Committee Award went to Lawrence Danecke for "Fall."
The judge was Robert Tynes, who is a professor of art in painting and drawing at UNC Asheville. He earned a MFA degree from East Carolina University and a BA in art from Rhodes College. He has held more than 25 solo exhibitions of his work.
