"Happy Birthday, Barter," by Joan Manross captured the most People's Choice Award votes during Celebration in Stitches at the Virginia Highlands Festival.
ABINGODN, Va. -- The Cave House Crafts Shop in Abingdon was host for the Celebration in Stitches quilted wall hanging challenge during the Virginia Highland's Festival.
All wall hangings were created in the spirit of celebration for all the anniversary events this year in our area.
Visitors to the shop were invited to vote for their favorite wall hanging for a "People's Choice Award." The winner is Joan Manross of Abingdon with her entry, "Happy Birthday, Barter!" A combination of applique, fabric painting, and machine quilting was used to create a "fabric photograph" of the Barter Theatre. Manross knew when the challenge was issued that she wanted to help celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the theaterusing her quilting talents.
