Carly Booher was the first place winner in a contest to design promotional artwork for this year's 'Wings & Wheels' antique auto and aircraft show, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Abingdon.
ABINGDON, Va. -- Original artwork created by a John Battle High School student will be used to promote this year's "Wings and Wheels" vintage aircraft and auto show, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Abingdon.
Carly Booher, a senior at John Battle, was the first place winner in a county-wide contest among high school students to design artwork for the show's advertising and promotion.
Second place winner in the contest was Katie Clark, a senior at John Battle, and the third place award went to Taylor Garcia, a junior at Patrick Henry High School.
The winners were honored at the Feb. 17 meeting of the Abingdon Kiwanis Club. Club president Gary Crane presented Booher with a first-place check for $300; Clark received $150; and Garcia received $50. The student's art teachers, Thelma Blake from John Battle and Cathy Hicks from Patrick Henry, were also honored during the meeting.
This year's Wings and Wheels Show is scheduled for July 25, 2009 at Virginia Highlands Airport. The show will feature antique cars and street rods as well as vintage bi-planes, war birds, ultra-lights, S.W.A.T. vehicles, and med flight and military helicopters. New this year will be an air show. All profits from the show benefit Kiwanis children's programs.
"Our first Wings and Wheels fly-in and cruise-in last summer was a huge success and we expect the 2009 show to be even more successful," says Crane.
