ETSU Martin Center for the Arts presents John Hiatt & the Goners featuring Sonny Landreth live Tuesday, Aug. 16 at 7:30 p.m. A master lyricist and satirical storyteller, Hiatt delivers songs filled with tales of redemption, relationships and surrendering on his own terms.

Hiatt brings his mix of new wave, country, blues and rock to the ETSU Foundation Grand Hall stage. With him will be backing band The Goners, along with a feature from blues musician and slide guitarist Sonny Landreth.

Hiatt’s most acclaimed album is 1987’s “Bring the Family” and other catalog highlights include the pop and rock of 1983’s “Riding with the King,” the rough blues-rock of 2008’s “Same Old Man,” and 2021’s “Leftover Feelings.”

His lyrics and melodies have graced more than 20 studio albums, have been recorded by Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, B.B. King, Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, along with many others, and have earned him a place in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, a BMI Troubadour Award, and a lifetime achievement in songwriting designation from the American Music Association.

Hiatt is joined by Grammy-nominated slide guitarist, Landreth, whose innovative guitar techniques have opened doors to new sonic textures and a complex tonal vocabulary, all bound by the bayou rhythm of his longtime bandmates. His extensive guitar work can be heard on hundreds of recordings from artists ranging from John Mayall to Hiatt.

“If you’re a fan of singer-songwriter and Americana genres, this show is for you,” says Jen-nifer Clements, executive director of the ETSU Martin Center for the Arts. “John Hiatt’s emotional storytelling along with Sonny Landreth’s classic guitar style is sure to entertain.”
