The Jonesborough Storytellers Guild is known for its homegrown tales and authentic local tellers. And, this year is special as the longest running group of tellers in the nation celebrates 20 years of sharing their talents in the Storytelling Capital of the World. The Jonesborough Storytellers Guild gathers each week to present stories to a live audience on Tuesday evenings from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the International Storytelling Center located in historic downtown Jonesborough.
Each week features up to four of the group's tellers who are set to entertain audiences of all ages. The Jonesborough Storytellers Guild includes professionals, semi-professionals, hobbyists, tellers of tales, singers of songs, workers of magic and honest liars who have been telling tales in downtown Jonesborough since 1994. Members of the group garner numerous accolades that have taken their storytelling talents and reputations to a worldwide level. The group also invites the International Storytelling Center's Teller-In-Residence for that week to join in on the fun, as their schedule permits.
In celebration of its 20th year in Jonesborough, the guild is using ticket sales from their Tuesday evening concerts and hosting special events to fund the group's storytelling road trip in 2015 to Kansas City for the National Storytelling Network's inaugural conference. The Guild hopes to include as many members as they can on the trip, as they will be featured at numerous festivals, events and cities along the way.
The Jonesborough Storytellers Guild concerts take place every Tuesday, year round, at 7 p.m. at the International Storytelling Center, open to all ages. A donation of $5 for adults and $3 per student is encouraged. For more information visit www.storytellersguild.org or call 423-753-6626.
