The most prestigious art show in the region, the Juried Fine Art Show and Exhibition of the Virginia Highlands Festival in Abingdon, Virginia, is adding a Juried Photography Exhibition this year. There are Youth art and photography exhibitions as well for ages 8-16.
The top monetary prizes in the adult art show this year are $2,000 for Best in Show, $1,500 for first place and $1,000 for second place.
The theme of the art show is “Appalachian Legacy: 250 Years of History & Beauty.” Both adult and youth shows are hung in the The Arts Depot from July 25 to Aug. 2. The juror is Russell Facemire, the Curator of Fine Arts and the Worrell Collection of wildlife Art at the William King Museumof Art.
The Juried Photography Exhibition for adults is held at the newly renovated Abingdon Train Station, which is next to The Arts Depot. Youth photography is shown at the Historic Hattie House Hotel in the same Depot Square area. The juror is Liam Beasnette-Cullinane, director of The Art Place.
The in-take days for all entries are Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19, from 2-5 p.m. at The Arts Depot.
