As King students pack to head home for the Thanksgiving weekend, members of the College's Symphonic Choir have a different agenda for their holiday break. Twenty-three members of the group are trading in their time off campus for a group appearance at New York City's Carnegie Hall Saturday, Nov. 25.
The group is performing as an element of the New England Symphonic Ensemble, in a program dedicated to the choral music of noted American composer Morten Lauridsen. Lauridsen will be present as a guest as the Ensemble performs under the direction of Dr. Timothy Sharp, who serves at Rhodes University.
According to King College Professor of Music Dr. Pat Flannagan, King's presence at the event was requested by the composer, as well as the conductor. A long-time director of the Symphonic Choir, Flannagan is pleased to have his students recognized in this way. "It's our second trip to Carnegie Hall," he said. "We performed in a Lauridsen concert in June of 2004, and this trip is a request for an encore performance. For Dr. Sharp and Mr. Lauridsen to ask us to appear again is the highest compliment for the students and our program."
