The Milligan College Concert Choir opened its 2007 spring tour in March.
The nine-day tour will cover 1,700 miles in four states, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia. The tour also includes a performance at the National City Christian Church in Washington, D.C. The 32-member choir will perform various styles of music, from classics to hymn arrangements, spirituals and contemporary music.
The choir is under the direction of John Wakefield, associate professor of music at Milligan. Wakefield is a veteran of many years as a choral conductor in Illinois, California and Ohio. He is active in the American Choral Directors Association, National Association of Teachers of Singing, the National Church Music Conference and The Hymn Society of the United States and Canada.
Milligan alumnus Joel Buckner will serve as accompanist. Buckner, a native of Johnson City, Tenn., is the owner of A Touch of Class Piano and serves as pianist at Grandview Christian Church in Johnson City.The college is located in Milligan, Tenn.
