Museum holds instrument drive

December 3, 2024

Radio Bristol, the community station that broadcasts from the Birthplace of Country Music Museum, is partnering with ReString Appalachia and WoodSongs on an instrument drive to help musicians affected by Hurricane Helene to replace instruments lost in the storm. The museum serves as a drop-off site for instrument donations for both organizations. The instruments are delivered to musicians who need them at no cost.

"We are looking for quality, playable instruments that musicians can pick up and play upon receipt," said Kris Truelsen, Radio Bristol program director. "We will facilitate getting those instruments to WoodSongs and ReString Appalachia who will put them in the hands of musicians. We hope this provides some relief from the hardship for artists who are still picking up the pieces in the aftermath of the disaster. For thousands of people in our region, the struggle is far from over."

Any playable instrument in good condition will be accepted for donation through the first quarter of 2025 with the exception of heavy pianos. The list of instruments needed includes, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Acoustic
  • Orchestra
  • Marching/Concert Band
  • Percussion
  • Electric
  • Gear
  • Banjos, guitars, mandolins, upright bass, Dobro
  • Violins, viola, cellos, double bass, harp
  • Trumpets, flutes, saxophone, french horn, cornet, trombone, mellophone, tuba, sousaphone, piccolo, cymbals, glockenspiel
  • Tamborines, congas, drums, timpani, cybmbals
  • Guitars, bass, keyboards
  • Amps, tuners, pedals, mixers 24 channels or smaller

Cash donations should be made directly to WoodSongs or ReString Appalachia. Instrument donations are accepted at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum's front desk during regular business hours Tuesday through Sunday. The museum is closed on Mondays and holidays.
