Spot of Color, a new art supplies store, has recently opened in Abingdon. They specialize in oil, watercolor and acrylic paints as well as dry mediums such as pastels, charcoal, graphite, colored pencil and pens. They also carry some calligraphy supplies.
Additionally, they have tools and accessories for all of the mediums they carry, as well as pre-stretched and primed canvas, paper pads for art, sketchbooks and journals. The owner Hana Eichin says, “All of our items are selected for their quality and eco-responsible items. Our goal is to also support local artists, and we have several pieces from a few local artists for sale in the store. The classroom space will hopefully be opening soon for classes and a free-to-use art studio space for anyone to drop in and create. “
Eichin is from Texas originally and came to Abingdon in 2013 to work at Barter Theatre, where she worked for six years as a scenic artist (painting the sets), then as a resident scenic designer. She designed a lot of shows there but some of her favorites were “Sherlock Holmes and the American Problem,” “Elf the Musical,” “Ain’t Misbehavin’” and “Maytag Virgin.”
Spot of Color is at 333 West Main Street, in the building which also houses the Historical Society of Washington County.
