Rachael Emery is accepting violin students for the fall semester.
KINGSPORT, TN - Rachael W. Emery has joined the violin faculty at Suzuki Talent Education of Appalachia (STEA), a non-profit organization that provides Suzuki music instruction at the Kingsport Renaissance Center.
Emery will be accepting new violin students for the fall semester.
A native of Kingsport, Emery recently completed her master's degree in Music and Human Learning from the University of Texas at Austin. As a graduate student, she taught private violin lessons, music theory, and group classes in the University of Texas String Project.
Additionally, she was employed as a violin instructor at Regents School of Austin, and she organized and implemented a co-curricular violin program at St. Paul Lutheran School. She completed Suzuki training for books one through three with Libby Armour, and Suzuki Violin Practicum with Dr. Laurie Scott.
Emery received a Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance from Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., where she studied under Jeffrey Z. Flaniken. As an undergraduate, she volunteered at K.I.D.S. non-profit music center where she was a violin instructor and guest lecturer.
Emery began her studies in violin at the age of five through Suzuki Talent Education of Appalachia under Linda Waltner, Kellie Brown, and Alice Keith Knowles. She was an apprentice with Symphony of the Mountains and an original member of Celtic Air, a fiddle band based in the Tri-Cities under the direction of Jane MacMorran.
Emery is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Mark Emery, and a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Kingsport.
Suzuki Talent Education of Appalachia was founded in 1967 as part of the Kingsport Symphony Association. The program offers Suzuki instruction in violin, viola, and piano to students ages 3 to adult. Families from throughout Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia participate in the program. STEA faculty include Jane MacMorran (violin and fiddle), Catherine McGlasson (violin, viola, and piano), and Jerilyn Paolini (piano).
