Symphony of the Mountains announces Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and producer Richard Marx will join the orchestra for a highly anticipated concert Saturday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. at the Toy F. Reid Eastman Employee Center in Kingsport, Tennessee.
Sponsored by the James and Laura Rogers Foundation, the performance brings together Marx’s celebrated songs with the full power and artistry of a symphony orchestra for one unforgettable evening. The concert reflects the organization’s commitment to ambitious programming that connects orchestral music with the artists and songs that have shaped generations.
The first half of the concert showcases the orchestra’s versatility and dynamic range in “Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture,” followed by Roberto Molinelli’s “Four Pictures from New York,” featuring saxophone soloist Brian Rodesch.
With a career spanning four decades, Marx has established himself as one of popular music’s most accomplished performers, songwriters and producers. He has sold more than 45 million albums, amassed one billion streams and earned 14 No. 1 singles through his work as a performer, songwriter and producer, including the enduring favorites “Right Here Waiting,” “Hazard” and “Hold On to the Nights.”
Marx’s accomplishments extend far beyond his own recordings. He is the only male artist in history to have his first seven singles reach the Top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100. He is one of only two artists — alongside Michael Jackson — to have written songs that reached No. 1 on Billboard charts in four different decades.
As a songwriter and producer, Marx has also worked with an extraordinary roster of artists, including Luther Vandross, Keith Urban, *NSYNC, Barbra Streisand and Burt Bacharach.
His latest album, “After Hours,” featuring Rod Stewart and Kenny G, debuted at No. 14 on Billboard’s Traditional Jazz Albums chart and earned praise from “The New York Times,” “USA Today,” “Billboard” and others. Marx also hosts the podcast “Stories to Tell,” which has featured guests including Paul Stanley, Rick Springfield and Kenny Loggins. He lives with his wife, Cuban-American television host Daisy Fuentes, in Malibu, California.
