Symphony of the Mountains collaborates with the Dobyns-Bennett High School Wind Symphony, under the direction of Lafe Cook, for an inspiring concert that brings together professional musicians and the next generation of artists in a shared performance. The concert is March 15 at 3 p.m. at the Toy F. Reid Eastman Employee Center, Kingsport, Tennessee.
The evening opens with Symphony of the Mountains performing “Pictures at an Exhibition” by Modest Moussorgsky, orchestrated by Maurice Ravel. Inspired by a series of paintings, the work is enhanced by projected artwork and images during the performance, creating a powerful multi-sensory concert experience for the audience.
Following intermission, the Dobyns-Bennett High School Wind Symphony takes the stage to perform a vibrant and diverse program, including: “Rise from Beginnings” by Adam Schoenberg, “La Fiesta Mexicana” by H. Owen Reed (III. Carnival), “Guadalcanal March from Victory at Sea” by Richard Rodgers and “Pineapple Poll, Suite from the Ballet” by Sir Arthur Sullivan.
The concert culminates in a combined performance of Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Capriccio Espagnol,” featuring the full forces of both Symphony of the Mountains and the Dobyns-Bennett Wind Symphony. This side-by-side finale promises dynamic energy, rich orchestral color and an unforgettable shared musical celebration.
“The energy of these young musicians combined with the professional SOTM musicians will make for an amazing experience for everyone on stage and in the audience,” says SOTM Conductor Cornelia Laemmli Orth.
