The Crooked Road receives Wayne C. Henderson Music Festival and Guitar Competition Grant

May 3, 2021

ABINGDON, Va. –Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail: The Crooked Road announces that the Traditional Music Education Program has been awarded a Wayne C. Henderson Music Festival and Guitar Competition grant.

These funds will help support The Crooked Road’s Youth Music Festival, scheduled for Oct. 16, at the Southwest Virginia Cultural Center & Marketplace. The Youth Music Festival is part of TCR’s Traditional Music Education Program, and there will be various performances from next-generation groups, including from regional Junior Appalachian Musicians programs.

For 2021, the day-long event will be expanded to feature workshops, jams and a fiddlers-convention style competition. At the end of the event, there will be a livestream fundraiser, which will go to benefit both TCR’s TMEP program and JAM.

“Wayne Henderson is an amazing luthier and musician in addition to being a valuable partner for The Crooked Road and the Traditional Music Education Program. His generosity and support are very much appreciated as TCR continues to identify opportunities to support the next generation of heritage musicians in the SWVA region,” says Larry Yates, President of The Crooked Road’s Board of Directors.
