MARION, VA - The Lincoln Theatre hosts two special fundraising events for this spring. Both shows are sponsored by groups that work to give affordable and free health care in Southwest Virginia and beyond.
Waiting To Hear is an organization that aids in providing hearing aids to deaf children. Founded in 2014, the group works to provide not only the technology needed to assist children with hearing loss, but also helps to build a sense of community and aids families on their journey through medical procedures. Their goal of reaching a hearing and spoken language outcome is achieved through their hearing aid bank, free mobile screening clinic and mentoring programs including Camp H.E.A.R (Hearing Empowerment and Adventure Retreat).
The organization is holding a fundraising concert March 15 at 7:30 with The Ultimate Garth Brooks Tribute featuring Shawn Gerhard. Gerhard performs a wide variety of Brooks’ music, creating a vibrant and thrilling atmosphere with his renditions of all the hits and a few hidden gems. Audiences of all ages are sure to enjoy this upbeat performance.
The Mel Leaman Free Clinic will also be having a fundraiser April 12 at 7:30 p.m. In collaboration with Emory & Henry, The Mel Leaman Free Clinic provides accessible, knowledgeableand patient-centered care to those in the area while also giving students interprofessional training. The organization offers a variety of primary care, specialty care and services to underserved residents of Southwest Virginia.
The Free Clinic’s fundraising event is a performance by musical artist Lightnin’ Charlie. The clinic’s goals of kindness and helping others mingle with Lightnin’ Charlie’s mix of soul, blues and country as he sings from his heart.
