Theatre Bristol 2018 Summer Camp registration now open

March 31, 2018

Theatre Bristol announces its 2018 children’s summer camp The StART of Adventure, running July 9-13 at 512 State Street, Bristol, Tennessee. This year's camp features two new offerings: camp for rising second graders through eighth graders, and a new one half-day camp for rising kindergartners and first graders.

Campers explore theatre and acting skills from teachers and theater veterans in the area. “We’re really excited to be able to continue our camp program,” said Seth Gilstrap, camp coordinator. Co-coordinator James Altman adds, “We’re also very thankful to the professionals who will be teaching the campers valuable theatrical skills and knowledge.” Guided by the Theatre Bristol Youth Service Board, campers spend the week learning acting skills, creative movement, music, costuming, makeup design, set design, props and more.

At the end of the week, campers perform three classic stories inspired by Dr. Seuss, as well as dances and songs they learned during the week.

The StART of Adventure is organized by the Theatre Bristol Youth Service Board, with guidance and counsel from the Theatre Bristol Board of Directors. “I see camp as a great way for the YSB to learn leadership, organization, planning and responsibility,” said Anna Kimerer, the Youth Service Board president, “We have all had wonderful opportunities on and off stage, and now we get a chance to offer our experience and knowledge to the next generation of young actors. I know our founder, Cathy DeCaterina, would be proud.”

Camp runs Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with early drop-off and late pick-up times available. Theatre Bristol provides a healthy snack in the afternoon, however campers need to pack a lunch each day. Registration is available online. The cost per camper is $150, with a family discount of each additional child reduced to $75, as well as an extra charge for early drop off and late pick up options. Financial assistance applications are also available. Space is limited.
