BRISTOL, Tennessee/Virginia -- Theatre Bristol announces its 2020 children’s summer camp The StART of Adventure, running July 6-10 at 512 State Street, Bristol, Tennessee. This year's camp features camp for rising second graders through eighth graders, and one half-day camp for rising kindergartners and first graders. Registration is open online at www.TheatreBristol.org.
Guided by the Theatre Bristol Youth Service Board, along with teachers and theater veterans in the area, campers will spend the week learning acting skills, creative movement, music, costuming, makeup design, set design, props and more. At the end of the week, campers bring their work to the stage for friends and family.
“Theatre Bristol summer camp is amazing and the kids love it,” said Seth Gilstrap, camp coordinator. Co-coordinator Whitney Brooks added how very thankful the YSB is to the professionals who will be teaching the campers valuable theatrical skills and knowledge.
The StART of Adventure is organized by the Theatre Bristol YSB, with guidance and counsel from the Theatre Bristol Board of Directors. “I have been a camper and I have been involved with leading camp and it’s something I still look forward to,” said Luke Gray, the YSB president, “so I want that same experience for children, to grow up with theater and grow in confidence.”
Camp runs Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Theatre Bristol provides a healthy snack in the afternoon, however campers will need to pack a lunch each day. Registration is available online. The cost per camper is $150, with a family discount of each additional child reduced to $75, as well as an extra charge for early drop off and late pick up options. The Thursday half-day camp is $25. Financial assistance applications are also available. Space is limited.
