The Bristol YWCA recently named 12 women from the Tri-Cities area as 2009 Tribute to Women honorees for their contributions to the region. The Arts category included the following three recipients:
• Katy Brown is artistic director of The Barter Players, as well as the associate director of Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Va. During her 11 years at Barter, she has directed more than 50 professional productions and shaped the lives of countless professionals in The Barter Players program. The Players tour throughout the East Coast.
• Dr. Kellie D. Brown is a leader in the field of music education and currently serves as associate professor and chair of music at Milligan College where she shares her talents, knowledge and skills with countless young musicians. She has participated in countless musicals, recitals and other performances throughout the Tri-Cities for the past two decades. She has been recognized regionally and nationally for her workshops and writings and is active with the Tennessee Music Educator Association.
• Ann Catherine Vachon is an art teacher at St. Dominic's School in Kingsport, Tenn., where she has a wonderful way with children that encourages creativity and brings out their personal best. She is a member of the Kingsport Art Guild and served as president from 2002-04. She is also a board member of the Arts Council of Greater Kingsport and serves on the city's Public Arts Policy Committee. In addition, Vachon has served as a resident artist and exhibitor for the Downtown Kingsport Association.
