Smyth County is the place to be for live music this summer. Adding to an already full schedule of events, the Town of Chilhowie announces its first ever concert series, “Music in the Park.” From May to October, the town hosts nine free concerts at the Town Park stage. All events are free and family friendly. Food trucks will be on hand, so bring a chair or a picnic blanket and enjoy dinner and a show.
The series kicks off May 21 with county singer-songwriter James Meadows. His album “Keepin’ it Real” was nominated for an Independent Music Award for Best Album – Country.
Other scheduled concerts include From The Edge (party rock and twisted country) on June 11, Coal Camp (classic rock) on June 25, Chaos on July 2, Shooter (country) on Aug. 4, Phantom (‘70s and ‘80s pop cover) on Aug. 20, P.F. Flyers (beach and pop cover) on Sept. 20, Will Eller (bluegrass) on Sept. 24 and Marques Puckett and 8 Second Rule (classic country) on Oct. 1.
Chilhowie Town Park is located at Exit 35 on I-81. Free parking is available along Railroad Drive.
In Marion, Virginia, the annual Cruise-In continues in the Farmers Market from 6-9 p.m. Cool and classic cars are invited to cruise in and enjoy the concerts.
Mick Kyte kicks off the series May 21, Victor Lawson performs June 21. Jigsaw Jane performs Aug. 20 and My New Favorites perform Sept 17. Mark Larkins concludes the series Oct. 15.
