ABINGDON, Va. - The 66th Virginia Highlands Festival congratulates the winners of its annual Juried Fine Arts and Photography competitions.
Artist and fine art professor Charles W. Goolsby judged the Fine Arts competition on display at The Arts Depot in Abingdon.
Claudia Furlow won the "Award of Excellence" with her three oil paintings, "Opossum Paw," "Armadillo Tail" and "Open Chest."
Awards of Distinction were given to artists Tracy Ference, Samantha Hand and Anna K. Nenonen. J. Burnette, Leslie Davis and Sue Mook all received Awards of Merit for their paintings. The Carl Jessee Award was given to Kyle Buckland for his oil painting "Still Waters."
The People's Choice Award went to Dawn Wickler for "The Glow Within."
Harry Taylor, professional photographer and guest lecturer for the festival this year, judged the photography exhibit entries.
William Brezinski won Best in Show for his photo "Askew." Clay Blankenbeckler's "Valeria" won the professional category and William Brezinski won the amateur category with "Tucson Morning." Ava Boltwood won the youth category with her photo, "Following the Sun."
