Sam Rasnake

VI Instructor Publishes Poetry

October 20, 2010

BRISTOL, VA - A new book of poems has been released by Sam Rasnake, a Virginia Intermont College creative writing instructor who has published extensively.

Inside a Broken Clock is Rasnake's third collection of published poetry. It has a focus on literary connections.

Noted poet Marge Piercy commented that it shows Rasnake's "ability to situate himself in the past and present journey of literature and his sharp sense of nature and the human landscape. His poems are precise with things – trout, grackles, moss, steaming bowls of soup – but reflective and strongly self-aware. He never presents himself exactly front and center emoting but is somewhat off to the side, seeing the context as clearly as he sees himself. In some of the work there is a moving sadness and sense of mortality and failure but never self-pity."

Rasnake previously published Necessary Motions, a collection of poetry, and two chapbooks, Religions of the Blood and Lessons in Morphology. In addition, he is the founding and lead editor of Blue Fifth Review, an online journal of poetry and art.

Inside a Broken Clock is available online www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=453864690106 and at the college bookstore.
