BRISTOL, VA - Justin James Reed, assistant professor of photography and digital imaging at Virginia Intermont College, has been selected a Flash Forward 2011 "Emerging Photographer" in international competition, including the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom.
The honorees will be featured in an exhibit this fall in Toronto, Canada, as well as a book launch. With collaboration as the dominant principle, the Magenta Foundation, a charitable publishing house that works to promote art, sponsors the competition.
Reed also has had two recent group shows, including his first exhibit in Sydney, Australia. The show was part of the Head On Photo Festival. Reed featured fragile untouched landscapes from his latest bodies of work, which are inspired by the remaining open spaces in the U.S. He also exhibited in Brooklyn, N.Y., as part of the New York Photo Festival.
In addition, Reed recently attended the Society for Photographic Education's national conference in Atlanta, Ga., participating in a group panel discussion on the importance of collective creativity and collaboration, and he attended the "Photolucida" portfolio reviews in Portland, Ore.
Reed is a member of the international photography collective, "Piece of Cake." He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Minneapolis College of Art and Design and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Tyler School of Art.
