WANTED ! Wertz Photographs

ABINGDON, VA - The Historical Society of Washington County, Virginia, is seeking pictures by portrait photographer George Wertz who operated Wertz Photographic Studio on Main Street in Abingdon from 1875 to 1924. The Historical Society is compiling memorabilia of his life and his significant contribution to photography.

Wertz pictures of children are his most popular. He also was a pioneer in taking pictures of Washington County from open biplanes in the early 1920s. A panoramic view of Abingdon taken in 1915 is in the Library of Congress.
