Workshop Offered: Understanding & Controlling Arts Organization Finances

The Virginia Commission for the Arts in partnership with the Virginians for the Arts Foundation and Virginia Tech Outreach and International Affairs invites all board and staff members of Virginia arts organizations and anyone interested in learning more about Understanding & Controlling Your Arts Organization's Finances.

The workshop will take place Friday, March 23 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center, One Partnership Circle, Abingdon. The cost is $49 per person, which includes all educational sessions, the handouts, and lunch.

The workshop will combine a seminar format with practical exercises. Through the exercises each participant will become familiar with key financial management tools that can be used by arts organizations to manage their finances.

Workshop Topics Include:
. Principles of Nonprofit Finance
. Budgeting for Small Museums
. Types & Purposes of Financial Statements
. How to Read Financial Statements
. Cash Flow Statement

The day's agenda will be presented by Dr. Russell A. Cargo, Associate Professor & Director Nonprofit & Civil Society Program Institute for Policy & Governance at Virginia Tech Office of Outreach & International Affairs School of Public & International Affairs.
