The AAME Speaker Series continues Feb. 25 at 7 p.m., in the J. Henry Kegley meeting room at the Bristol Public Library.
Suzanne Stryk, multimedia visual artist from Bristol, Virginia, takes us on “An Artist’s Journey Through Virginia.â€
Born in Chicago and currently residing in Southwest Virginia, Stryk has shown her nature-based paintings and assemblages in solo exhibits throughout the country, including the Morris Museum of Art (Georgia), the United States Botanic Garden (Washington, D.C.), and Gallery 180: The Illinois Institute of Art (Chicago, Illinois). The artist’s images have appeared in numerous publications, including Art Papers and New American Paintings, with full portfolios in Shenandoah, The Kenyon Review, Orion and Ecotone. She is the recipient of a Virginia Commission for the Arts Individual Artist Fellowship for her project “Notes on the State of Virginia,†for which she traveled throughout the state.
Stryk will share her adventures creating this project, taking you on a unique tour of Virginia from an artist’s and naturalist’s perspective.
