The AAME Arts Achievement Awards annually recognize five living individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the arts in the Tri-Cities area.
Recipients may include artists; arts educators in schools, colleges and universities; arts advocates and volunteers; and administrators of arts institutions. The selection is based on artistic excellence, perseverance, commitment and sustained contributions to the arts and the cultural community. An awards ceremony held in May recognizes the winners. Current AAME board members and A! Magazine committee members are not eligible to enter.

The nominees should reside in the cities of Johnson City, Kingsport, Bristol, Virginia and Bristol, Tennessee; Washington and Sullivan Counties in Tennessee; Washington County, Virginia.
