Carson Peters & Iron Mountainplay opening night at the third annual Abingdon's Old-Time Bluegrass and Gospel Fiddler's Convention,Fiddlin’ at The Fairgrounds.
The convention is heldFriday, June 21 through Sunday, June23, individuals from across the country will gather at The Washington County, Virginia,Fairgrounds tocompete for over $8,500 in prize money and awards in adult and youth individual and band competitions.Categories include guitar, banjo (bluegrass & old-time,) mandolin, bass, fiddle (bluegrass & old-time,)harmonica, autoharp, dulcimer, flat foot, old-time band, bluegrass band and gospel band. All skill levels arewelcome and encouraged to participate.
Opening Ceremony kicks off Friday, June 21at 5:30 p.m. Competition begins at 6p.m., for individualand bands. Carson Peters & Iron Mountain take the main stage for a performance for 8 p.m.
Youth Competition begins at 10 a.m., June 22and Adult Competition will follow. Bandcompetition follows adultindividual. Throughout the day several educational seminars are held under theEducation Tent and the Flat Foot Competition is at 8 p.m.. Tim White will be the emcee for theweekend. The winning Bluegrass Band will win a day in the studio at Billy Blue Records in Hendersonville, Tennessee.
Fiddlers’ Fellowship at 10 a.m., June 23, and at 1 p.m., theFirst Gospel Band Competition begins. Shopping and Food Vendors are set up all weekend. Camping available. Jamming is allowed andencouraged.
The event is held outside, with an inside option for inclement weather. Dry camping isallowed foran additional fee. If interested in competing, register in advance to be eligible to win door prizesdonated by local businesses.
