Johnson City Public Library is hosting a series of free, family-friendly “front porch” concerts on Sundays in September. Regional musicians will play from 3-4 p.m. on the library’s front steps.
The library’s steps offer views of the mountains and downtown, making it a lovely setting for an outdoor concert. People are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket to enjoy the live music.

Sept. 29:Corey Snowden
The first concert features Shawn Lane Sunday, Sept. 8. Lane is a dynamic vocalist and instrumentalist who plays fiddle, mandolin and guitar. He is also a respected songwriter with several chart-topping bluegrass hits.
As a founding member of the bluegrass band Blue Highway, he was nominated for three Grammy Awards and won the International Bluegrass Music Association Award 28 times. Lane toured or recorded with musical greats like Willie Nelson, Ricky Skaggs, Kenny Chesney and Alison Krauss.

JCPL Adult Services Librarian Jonathan Burchett sees this month-long series as a way that the library lives out its mission. He said, “Offering these free concerts is one way that we provide quality entertainment opportunities in a dynamic center for our community.”
Burchett continued, “We’re especially excited for this year's line-up because, while the artists span different genres, they’re all local or have regional ties. We love giving the talented musicians in our area a place to showcase their work.”
