JOHNSON CITY, TN—The Knoxville Gay Men’s Chorusreturns to the stage after a two-year hiatus this weekend, including a performance at the new ETSU Martin Center for the Arts. “Slay, Belles!” is presented Saturday, Dec. 11 at 3 p.m.and 7:30 p.m. at the Bijou Theatre in Knoxville and Sunday, Dec. 12 at 4 p.m.in the Grand Hall of the ETSU Martin Center.

The show kicks off the choir’s 10th anniversary season. Music includes familiar favorites as well as witty parodies of carols and new holiday works. Playwright Adam Crandall provides a drag-filled script that weaves the songs performed by the choir into a funny, uplifting holiday story. The chorus is accompanied by a 10-piece orchestra and featured dancers throughout the concert.

The presenting sponsor for “Slay, Belles!” is Positively Living: Choice Health Network, with additional financial support provided by the ETSU College of Arts and Sciences Office of Equity and Inclusion.

Artistic director, Dr. Alan Stevens, is also associate professor and co-director of choral activities at ETSU. “I’m thrilled to bring KGMC to the TriCities for this performance,” says Stevens. “This year we started a rehearsal group in Johnson City that combines with the rehearsal group in Knoxville to form a chorus of over 70 that come from throughout the northeastern Tennessee and southwestern Virginia area.”

The chorus was founded in 2012 by Johnson City native Bleu Copas, now president of the organization. “I’m excited to bring our show to my home town. We hope to make someone’s holiday who might just need a laugh or two, or just some encouragement,” says Copas. Tickets for the Sunday performance at the Martin Center are available at knoxgmc.org Tickets range from $15-$25. More information about the chorus is available at knoxgmc.org
