Lincoln Theatre hosts film events

January 3–14, 2025 @ The Lincoln Theatre

The Lincoln Theatre hosts multiple film events in the month of January including the return of Film Freaks, the newest movie in their Thirsty Thursday program, and the continuation of Golden Oldies.

Film Freaks is a free educational-based film experience that includes a lecture, film screening, and live discussion. The first half of the year focuses on film basics and startsJan.3 with a lecture about shot types, framingand camera movement. The lecture will help the audience build a film vocabulary before the mystery movie begins. Following the film there will be a guided discussion that aims to have the audience think critically and academically while also sharing opinions on the art of movies.

“There aren’t many opportunities in this area for adults to get a free education and none of them include film. Film is a huge part of my personal life and academic history and I love sharing the beauty of the art form,” says The Lincoln Theatre’s Film Curator Katelin Aanerud. “After noticing how some patrons struggled to explain what they saw on the screen, this year I wanted to establish a new understanding of the basics of film starting with shot types. It’s easier to explain your thoughts when you have the right movie vocabulary.”

The Lincoln Theatre strives to connect with the community on more than just Saturday nights. Their Thirsty Thursday series brings more exciting events to the community during the week. The Mel Brooks’ daring and controversial comedy Blazing Saddles (1974) will be screened Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. Tickets for the film can be purchased online or at the door for $5.

Also, check out the full 2025 calendar of events and discover a variety of Friday night film screenings throughout the year, returning in February.

Golden Oldies: Cinema Classics isheld Jan.14 at 11 a.m. This free program pulls the audience back in time to experience The Lincoln Theatre in its “movie palace” days. The Lincoln will be highlighting many classics throughout the year while also looking back to their very first year of programming: 1929.
