Make Music Day held in Knoxville

In celebration of International Make Music Day, which takes place June 21 each year, a variety of local artists, businessesand organizations come together to present free, family-friendly concerts throughout downtown Knoxville from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Make Music Knoxville is produced by the Arts & Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville, in partnership with the national Make Music Day initiative.

Unlike a typical music festival, Make Music concerts are performed by anyone who wants to take part and enjoyed by everyone who wants to attend. From classical to folk, polka to opera, bagpipes to punk rock, live music of all kinds resounds on streets, sidewalks, porches, plazas, parks, gardens, storefrontsand other public spaces on the longest day of the year.

Highlights of Make Music Knoxville will include:

  • Asquare dancehosted by Jubilee Community Arts at The Emporium, 10 a.m.
  • International offerings fromSchuhplattler 7(polka),Shamisen Knoxville(traditional Japanese), andKnoxville Pipes & Drums(Celtic) at the Cradle of Country Music Park presented by WDVX, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Group drumming for kidswith Cecilia Stairin the Krutch Park Extension, 10 a.m.
  • A full slate of buskersat the Market Square Farmers Market, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
  • New music ensembleNief-Norfin residence at the Knoxville Museum of Art with a variety ofparticipatory activities, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Anold-time jamhosted by Jubilee Community Arts and WDVX at the Cradle of Country Music Park, 11 a.m.
  • Avariety performancefrom the Knoxville Operaincluding members of the KO Gospel Choir, Youth Choir, and the Military Chorus, as well as local professional company members, outdoors under the Historic Tennessee Theatre’s Marquee, 1 p.m.
