'Matilda the Musical Jr.' is on stage

Pound, VA–This summer, Pro-Art welcomed students for a month-long residency at J.W. Adams—and now they’re ready to revolt.Pro-Art’s Camp Create! presents Roald Dahl’s “Matilda the Musical, Jr.” Friday, July 26and Saturday, July 27at 6 p.m. at J.W. Adams Combined School in Pound. The performances are free and open to the public, but donations to the long-term sustainability of the camp are appreciated. Doors open 30 minutes prior to the show.

Rebellion is nigh in the Camp Create! production of Roald Dahl’s “Matilda the Musical, Jr.”, a gleefully witty ode to the anarchy of childhood and the power of imagination.Thisstory of a girl who dreams of a better life and the children she inspires will have audiences rooting for the "revolting children" who are out to teach the grown-ups a lesson.

Matilda has astonishing wit, intelligence ... and special powers.She's unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the lovable Miss Honey. Matilda's school life isn't completely smooth sailing, however – the school's mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don't abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils' saving grace.

Packed with high-energy dance numbers and catchy songs,“Matilda the Musical, Jr.” is a joyous girl power romp. Children and adults alike will be thrilled and delighted by the story of the special little girl with an extraordinary imagination.

Thanks in part to the generosity of the Rapha Foundation, Pro-Art launched this “reboot” of its cherished summer camp with no required cost to student’s families. Instead, Pro-Art is asking participant’s families and the wider community to make a contribution to the sustainability of the camp program at any amount that is meaningful to them. Executive Director Michael McNulty said, “We want everyone to be able to participate in this program, but we also want it to be sustainable financially going forward.
