Department of Art & Design and Slocumb Galleries present 'Held On by a Thread' by MFA candidate Annie Hutchins at Tipton Gallery from March 6 to 28, with opening reception March 7, First Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Hutchins is a multi-disciplinary fiber and printmaking artist from Raymond, Mississippi. Her current body of work deals with the loss of memories, family artifactsand craft art passed down from generations. Hutchins holds a BFA in Studio Art from the University of Mississippi, where she worked primarily in printmaking. She is pursuing her MFA at East Tennessee State University with her anticipated graduation date being Spring 2025. While at East Tennessee State University, she has been combining printmaking with fiber processes. Hutchins utilizes family artifacts and photographs to create the imagery in her art. Her aim is to reuse items that had connections to the women who came before her. She works in fiber processes such as quilting, weaving, and embroidery as a way to connect to women’s history in craft.
Tipton Gallery is located at 126 Spring Street, downtown Johnson City and open on Thursdays and Fridays from 5 to 7 p.m. with extended hours on receptions and by appointment.
