Bristol Public Library is hosting an Author Talk March 27 at 6p.m. in the J. Henry KegleyMeeting Room. Chrissie Anderson Peters, author of "Dog Days and Dragonflies,""running fromcrazy"and "Blue Ridge Christmas"is joined by Rebecca Elswick, author of "Mama’s Shoes" and "No Stopping Her"for a special author conversation. They will share their stories and talkabout their latest works.
Peters lives in Bristol, Tennessee. She holds degrees from Emory & HenryCollege and the University of Tennessee. She has been published or is forthcoming in Women ofAppalachia Project, Red Branch Review, Untelling, Salvation South, Chicken Soup for theSoul, Cutleafand others. She lives with her husband, Russ, and three feline sons, and loves allthings '80s-related.
Elswick lives in the mountains of SouthwestVirginia where she was born, thedaughter and granddaughter of coal miners. Her fiction and nonfiction have appeared in manyjournals and anthologies, among them Deep South, Still: The Journal, and Drafthorse. Her newnovel, "The Dream is the Truth," was released Feb. 4, 2025 from Artemesia Publishing. Heraward-winning debut novel, "Mama’s Shoes" (2011) was published by Writer’s Digest, the resultof winning a contest. "No Stopping Her" was published in 2015 by Gemma Media’s Open DoorSeries for Adult Literacy. She also authored a teacher’s manual/workbook to accompany thebook. Elswick is a lifelong teacher. She has an MFA from West VirginiaWesleyan College, and anMEd. in Education from East Tennessee State University. She is a consultant forBuchanan County Schools and the Appalachian Writing Project at UVA Wise.
