Virginia Highlands Community College concludes the Fall 2018 Arts Array Film Series. Show times are Monday and Tuesday evenings at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Abingdon Cinemall. Admission is free for all students and staff members of Virginia Highlands Community College, Emory & Henry College, King University, East Tennessee State University and Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center, including participants in the College of Older Adults who purchase an Arts Array pass. Community admission is $7.75.
“Black Panther†is on screen Nov. 5 and 6. After the events of “Captain America: Civil War,†King T’Challa returns home to the reclusive, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda. However, he is soon challenged for his throne. As foes conspire against Wakanda, the hero known as “Black Panther†must team up with the C.I.A. and special forces to prevent Wakanda from being dragged into a world war.
“Leave No Trace†is shown Nov. 12 and 13. Based on the novel by Peter Rock, this film features a father and daughter who live a near-perfect but mysterious and isolated existence in Forest Park, a beautiful nature reserve near Portland, Oregon. But when a small mistake tips them off to authorities, they are sent on an increasingly erratic journey in search of a place to call their own.
“Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot†is on screen Nov. 19 and 20. Struggling with addiction and sobriety after an accident leaves him quadriplegic, cartoonist John Callahan discovers the power of art, often hilarious and sometimes controversial, to heal. This uplifting biopic about an alcoholic is based on an artist’s real-life battles and victories.
