Got a ghost story? A local legend? Something strange that happened on a back road and nobody has ever quite explained?
TheBonnie Kate Theater wants to see it.
The theater has issued aCall for Artfor an October lobby exhibition celebratinglocal legends, superstitions, ghost stories, autumn and the spooky season.Entries are dueSept. 13.
Selected work will be displayed throughout October as the Bonnie Kate hosts performances of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow"and "Monster Fest," turning the theater’s lobby into part gallery, part ghost story and part celebration of fall in Appalachia.
Artists are encouraged to interpret the themes broadly. Work doesnotneed to depictSleepy Hollowor traditional Halloween imagery.
The Bonnie Kate is especially interested in work inspired by:
“We want artists to have some fun with this,” said Thomas Townsend, director of marketing and audience development. “Appalachia is full of stories, legends and things somebody’s grandmother swears really happened. October is the perfect time to bring some of those stories out of the shadows and onto the walls of the Bonnie Kate.”
The exhibition complements a full month of fall programming at the historic downtown theater, including "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow"and "Monster Fest."
It also expands the Bonnie Kate’s growing role as a home for more than stage and screen. As a regional nonprofit arts center, the theater works to provide opportunities forfilm, live theater, music, visual art and community creativityunder one historic roof.
Entries are due Sept. 13.
