The Bristol Ballet Company announces its upcoming production of Shakespeare’s comedy, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” The ballet presents two performances, May 11 at 12 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at the historic Paramount Bristol.
Experience the magic of Shakespeare’s classic tale brought to life through the artistry of dance, set to Felix Mendelssohn’s score composed specifically for this timeless story. This reimagined interpretation showcases the talent and dedication of Bristol Ballet’s students, company members and community collaborators. The performance is produced by Bristol Ballet’s Artistic and School of Ballet Director, Moira Frazier Ostrander.
Follow the mischievous adventures of fairies and mortals as Oberon, king of the fairies, and his playful sidekick Puck meddle with the lives of unsuspecting humans. Watch as love triangles unfold, spells go awry, and chaos ensues in the mystical forest. From humorous moments to poignant encounters, this production promises to fascinate audiences of all ages.
Bristol Ballet features a cast of performers, including guest artists from the community. Theatre Bristol veterans Steve Baskett and Mary Ellis Rice lend their talents as narrators, seamlessly weaving passages from the original play into the ballet’s narrative. Joining them are Zaiah Gray and James Francis, who bring their expertise to the roles of Nick Bottom and Demetrius, respectively.
Eran Castonguay, renowned for his performances with the Southern Appalachian Dance Collective, takes on the role of Oberon, while David Godsey, a dedicated member of the Bristol Ballet community, portrays Lysander. Together with an ensemble of dancers, they promise to deliver a spellbinding performance filled with whimsy and wonder.
